Effect of Cobalt Content on the Properties of Nickel-Cobalt Alloy Coatings

Abstract A batch of nickel-cobalt alloy coatings was pulse-electroplated on gun steel (PCrNi3MoVA) surface, in which weight fractions Co element are 39.9 %, 55.5 67.5 and 79.8 respectively. The formations phase crystal structure were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. layers’ surface morphology chemical composition analyzed scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectrometry. tribological nano-mechanical performances the used to evaluate high-speed reciprocating friction wear tester nanoindentation tester, results showed that preferred orientation gradually changed from (111) (220) rising cobalt content, resulting changes pyramidal grains spherical particles then a triangular pyramid structure. As content wt.% coating, its crystalline grain size reached smallest value 11.53 nm, enhancing hardness resistance.
